Terms & Policies

Terms of Service

Overview This website is operated by Bishop's Remedy. Throughout the site, the terms "we", "us", “I” and "our" refer to Bishop's Remedy.

By visiting our website or purchasing something from us, you agree to be bound by the following Terms of Service, including any additional policies linked on this page. These terms apply to all users of our site.

Please read them carefully before using our website. If you don't agree with them, you should not access or use the site.

We may update these Terms at any time by posting changes here. Continued use of the website means you accept the latest version.

Our store is hosted by Shopify Inc., who provide the e-commerce platform that allows us to sell our products to you.

1. Online Store Terms By agreeing to these Terms, you confirm that you are at least the age of majority in your place of residence, or that you have consent from a parent or guardian to use this site.

You may not use our products for any illegal purpose or violate any laws in your jurisdiction.

Any breach of these Terms will result in the immediate termination of your access to our Services.

2. General Conditions We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, for any reason, at any time.

You agree not to reproduce, copy, sell, or exploit any part of our Service without written permission from us.

While we do our best to protect your data, you acknowledge that some technical information (not including credit card details) may be transmitted unencrypted across networks. Credit card details are always encrypted during transfer.

3. Accuracy of Information We aim to keep all information on our website accurate and up to date, but errors can occasionally occur.

Any reliance on material from this site is at your own risk. We may change content at any time without notice.

4. Product Information & Pricing Bishop's Remedy candles are traditionally hand-dipped from pure beeswax. Because each candle is handmade, small variations in colour, shape, height, and finish are natural and expected, and do not constitute a fault.

We take care to display our products as accurately as possible, though variations in device screens may affect how colours appear.

Prices are subject to change without notice. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue products at any time, and to limit sales by person, region, or quantity.

5. Candle Safety & Intended Use Your safety matters to us. Please read and follow this section carefully before burning any Bishop's Remedy candle.

  • Always burn candles on a stable, heat-resistant, fireproof surface, clear of curtains, fabric, paper, and other flammable materials.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish fully before leaving the room or going to sleep.
  • Keep burning candles well out of reach of children and pets.
  • Trim the wick to approximately 8mm before each burn, and keep the wax pool free of trimmings, matches, or debris.
  • Discontinue use once approximately 10–15mm of wax remains at the base, to avoid overheating the container or surface.

Some of our product listings include ritual-use suggestions — such as writing, reading aloud, or burning an intention. These are offered as creative and reflective prompts only. They are not safety instructions, and all general candle-safety guidance above still applies in full, regardless of how a candle is used.

Bishop's Remedy is not liable for any loss, damage, or injury arising from a candle being burned in a manner inconsistent with this section.

6. Orders & Billing Information We may refuse or limit any order at our discretion. Where we cancel or modify an order, we'll do our best to notify you using the contact details provided at checkout.

You agree to provide accurate and complete purchase and account information to ensure we can fulfil your order successfully.

For details on returns, please see our Returns Policy.

7. Shipping Our shipping and delivery terms are detailed in our Shipping Policy. Bishop's Remedy is not responsible for delays caused by third-party couriers.

Because our candles are made from pure beeswax, they can soften in high temperatures. We take reasonable care in packaging, but we recommend against leaving parcels in direct sun, hot mailboxes, or vehicles once delivered.

8. Third-Party Tools & Links We may provide access to third-party tools or links. These are offered "as is" and "as available."

We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or security of any third-party site or service.

9. User Content & Feedback If you share feedback, comments, photos, or ideas with us (via email, social media, or otherwise) — including images of how you use or display our candles — you grant Bishop's Remedy the right to use that material for marketing or operational purposes, without obligation to compensate you.

You must not post unlawful, harmful, or misleading content on our platforms.

10. Personal Information Your personal information is handled in line with our Privacy Policy.

11. Errors & Omissions Occasionally, information on our site may contain typographical or pricing errors. We reserve the right to correct any such errors, including after an order has been placed.

12. Prohibited Uses You must not use our website or content for:

  • Any unlawful purpose
  • Harassment, abuse, or discrimination of any kind
  • Uploading malicious code or viruses
  • Infringing on our intellectual property or that of others
  • Misleading, fraudulent, or defamatory activities

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access for any breach of these Terms.

13. Warranties & Limitation of Liability Our website and products are provided "as is" and "as available."

We make no guarantees that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bishop's Remedy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of our site or products, including damages arising from improper or unsupervised burning of a candle.

14. Indemnification You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Bishop's Remedy and its staff from any claim or demand arising from your breach of these Terms or your violation of any law or third-party rights.

15. Severability If any part of these Terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, the remainder will continue in full force and effect.

16. Termination You may stop using our site at any time.

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or misuse our services.

17. Entire Agreement These Terms, along with our other policies, represent the complete agreement between you and Bishop's Remedy. Any previous agreements or understandings are replaced by these Terms.

18. Governing Law These Terms and any separate agreements are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
