Burn With Care

The lighting of your candle is a small ceremony in itself. Trim the wick with care, watch the flame settle, tend to it as it burns.

A three-arm black metal candelabra holding three lit yellow taper candles sits on a wooden dining table, surrounded by plates, mugs, a teapot, and a blue chair in a warm, rustic room with a wooden hutch in the background.

Trim the wick. Before lighting, trim the wick to a little under 1 cm.

Secure well. Make sure your candle is secure in a fireproof holder or dish, melting a little wax at the base if needed.

Watch for drafts. Every candle is carefully crafted by hand and kissed by imperfection. Some candles will drip more than others. A candle placed in a draft will flicker rapidly creating wax drips and burning unevenly.

Hug your Altar candles. As the candle burns down you can gently mould any wax forming at the edges in towards the flame. This is called “hugging” the candle.

Release the flame. Embers caught up in in the wax pool may clog the wick and can be tipped out to release the flame.

Bloom. Pure beeswax produces a natural “bloom”, a powdery coating that forms on the surface after fluctuations in temperature. This is a sign of pure beeswax and can easily be wiped off with a soft cloth.

Children are very drawn to candles, they won’t be able to keep their hands off, please supervise very carefully.

Light & enjoy x

We believe a candle is never just an object. Flame has been used to mark thresholds for as long as people have gathered around it. When you light one of our candles you're taking part in this ancient ritual.
